We publicized the Prologue to the book on the Internet and in our newsletter during the run-up to the book's release. Dad often told this story after dinner, but he rarely told it in public. The reason was that he did not feel he could adequately substantiate the story. Neal Knox was trained as a reporter and he did not feel comfortable reporting allegations that he could not verify as factual. The story got a fair amount of viral circulation (thank you, and feel free to continue circulating it).
Some of the discussion that bubbled up from the story being circulated resulted in my finding some resources in Belgium that may help me get to the facts behind the story. Dad wanted to get to the bottom of the story and I'm hoping that I'll be able to complete the work.
But one aspect of this story is irrefutable: That is the effect that the story had on a young (just turned 19) Neal Knox. He heard it first-hand from an eye-witness and for him, it had the ring of truth. He saw the tears and heard the quiver in the voice. He believed this story in his core and it put him on the course that led him to his life's work.
